Countering the Backstep

In the final video in his half guard underhook series, 3rd-degree black belt Miad Najafi deals with a common scenario where the top player loses the underhook and kicks over to the opposite side with a backstep. From here, they will have several passing options, and if the situation isn't addressed, they will regain the upper hand. This is a nice counter to that situation that should result in a nice sweep and pass.

Miad is the head instructor at Centre Line Jiu Jitsu in Worthing.

This video was filmed at the 2023 JJB Network Spring Super Seminar hosted by Kingston Jiu Jitsu. You can learn more about the JJB Club Network here.
