“My kids had been training in BJJ for a long time, but I had always been hesitant to start. Private lessons with Nic gave me the confidence I needed to begin training in group classes.”

Learn & Progress as Fast as Possible

Unlike group classes, in which some students may feel left behind, private lessons allow the instructor to tailor the class exclusively to the individual.

For some, jumping straight into group classes can be intimidating. Private lessons allow the student to develop a basic level of skills before attending regular classes, should they so desire.

Ideal for Beginners

For those who have never done a martial art before or are out of shape due to hectic work commitments and lifestyle, private lessons offer a controlled and gradual introduction to the art. Prospective students need not be worried about their coordination levels or physical abilities – aspects which could be limiting in a group-class environment.

Nic’s patient and methodical teaching approach is especially suited to novices. He specializes in breaking down jiu-jitsu into simple concepts and movements which can be easily understood by beginners.

A Typical Private Lesson

All lessons are tailored to the individual client’s needs and abilities, but generally they follow a similar format.

The sessions last approximately 60 minutes and start with a strength and endurance building warm-up, followed by hands-on explanation of a specific technique or skill. The student is then coached to a level of competence in said skill. Usually, the instructor and student engage in some light grappling-sparring for the last 15 minutes of the class, which is brought to a conclusion by a calming, assisted stretch sequence.

What will I need?

For your first lesson, just a pair of track-pants and a t-shirt. For subsequent lessons you will require a brazilian jiu-jitsu uniform or ‘gi’, which you will be able to purchase from your instructor or online.
