Like most other kids of his generation David’s experience of the martial arts was a traditional one and began almost 20 years ago with Karate in the early 1990’s, after gaining his black belt and travelling across the United States and Europe to train under as many instructors as possible an infectious love of all things martial arts manifested itself and led to training in a number of other arts including Muay Thai, submission wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and eventually MMA competition.
“For a short while [in 2001] I trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under a guy named Ronaldo Campos at the Tokei Martial Arts Centre in London whilst training no-gi and wrestling with the London Shootfighters in Kilburn however due to living some 60 miles outside of London this proved to be hard to keep up every week”. Neverthless, David’s enthusiasm for grappling had begun and he channelled this new found passion into Judo, gaining his black belt in just 11 months.
Fast forward some seven years and in 2008, now with an academy of his own – The Tokon Academy, David stumbled across a website that was to dramatically change his training methods and outlook on everything from training, conditioning and life itself – the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood – and after an initial seminar with the JJB Head Coach Nicolas Gregoriades a new direction was born.
Currently the instructor of the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood academies in Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire and the owner of the digital magazine KombatClinic.com, David is 100% dedicated to developing himself and his training partners in the truest sense of the word.
